Quick & Easy Removals provides removalists Inner West households can book for terraces, walk-up flats, apartment buildings and family homes, from Balmain and Newtown out to Burwood and Strathfield. Our crews work from a depot in Greenacre, the Inner West sits inside our everyday removalists Sydney service area, and we have been moving Sydney homes for more than 20 years. We are AFRA accredited and fully insured, with extra removal insurance available.

What Inner West homes mean for your move

The Inner West is not a region of wide driveways and double garages. The ABS 2021 Census QuickStats for the Inner West Council area counted 182,818 people, and the occupied homes look very different from the rest of the state:

  • 42.4 per cent are flats or apartments, against 21.7 per cent across New South Wales.
  • 27.1 per cent are semi-detached, row or terrace houses or townhouses, against 11.7 per cent across the state.
  • Only 28.8 per cent are separate houses, against 65.6 per cent statewide.
  • 43.8 per cent of homes are rented, and two bedrooms is the most common size at 38.9 per cent.

Our Inner West region also takes in Burwood, Strathfield, Concord, Campsie and the Parramatta River suburbs, beyond that council boundary. Across most of it the pattern holds: shared walls, internal stairs, older strata blocks and renters working to a lease end date. That decides the truck we send, where it parks and how the crew plans the carry.

Removalists Inner West: which truck suits your home

We size the truck to the job first, so your move is done in a single trip rather than repeat runs across Parramatta Road. Our fleet runs in seven published sizes, from 4 to 5 tonne up to 65 to 70 cubic metres. We confirm the size from your inventory when we quote.

Studio, one bedroom or small two bedroom flat4 to 5 tonne truck, 20 to 25 cubic metresThe size suited to an inner city apartment or a small move

Tell us about your street when you ask for a quote. A truck that can stand outside your door saves the crew a long carry, and a long carry adds time.

Terraces, narrow streets and truck parking

Moving out of a terrace

Terraces and semis are where Inner West moves are won or lost: narrow hallways, tight stair turns and front doors that open straight onto the footpath. Before moving day, measure the largest pieces against the hallway, the stair turns and the doors at both addresses. Beds, wardrobes and some dining tables may need to come apart, so list them when you quote and read how our furniture removals service handles bulky pieces. Our blog has practical tips for getting furniture through tight doorways. Mention any rear lane access, since it can change the plan.

Where the truck can stop

Under rule 200 of the NSW Road Rules 2014, a heavy or long vehicle must not stop on a road in a built-up area for longer than 1 hour, unless signs allow it or the driver is dropping off or picking up goods for the whole time. A long vehicle is one 7.5 metres long or longer. In practice our truck arrives ready to load and keeps working; it does not sit in your street the night before.

Formal kerb space is built for construction, not a one day move. Inner West Council’s work zone permit lets a vehicle park in the street while approved works are carried out on the adjacent property, and Council says approval could take up to eight weeks. For a house move, these steps help more:

  • Park your own car outside the night before to hold the space, then move it in the morning.
  • Let neighbours know the date and rough times.
  • Tell us about clearways, bus stops, No Stopping signs, permit only parking or a steep or narrow street.
  • Send photos of the street and entrance with your quote request.

Moving in or out of an Inner West apartment block

With more than four in ten Inner West homes being flats or apartments, many moves start or finish in a strata building. The NSW Government’s strata by-laws guide says by-laws are rules that all residents living in a strata scheme must follow, and that tenants should receive the by-laws from their landlord or real estate agent.

If your building is an older strata scheme, the standard by-laws for pre-1996 strata schemes say an owner or occupier must not move furniture or a large object through or on common property without first giving the strata committee enough notice to arrange for its nominee to be present. Your building’s registered by-laws may differ, so check them early and then:

  • Book the lift, loading dock or visitor bay with the building or strata manager.
  • Confirm any moving hours, lift protection or bond the building asks for.
  • Tell us the floor level, whether there is a lift, and the distance from the truck to the entry.

Our crews arrive with dollies, trolleys, blankets, straps and ropes, so your furniture is wrapped and secured for the trip down the stairs or lift.

Inner West removalists services

Add any of these to your move:

  • House and unit moves. Our home removals cover everything from a studio to a large family home, with mattresses shrink wrapped free when you book.
  • Packing and unpacking. A dedicated packing team packs one room, just the breakables, or the whole house, and hanging clothes travel in port a robes and are rehung in the wardrobe at the other end. See our packing and unpacking service.
  • Boxes and materials. The crew provides moving boxes, shrink wrap and other packaging materials on the day, or you can buy cartons ahead of time from our box shop.
  • Storage between leases. Our modular storage box is delivered to your address, packed by our crew, taken to our secure facility, then delivered back and unpacked when you are ready. It starts at 10 cubic metres.
  • Office moves. Our office removals can run after hours, overnight or on a Sunday, and the team dismantles and reassembles furniture and packs and archives files.
  • Pianos. Upright pianos are moved by our standard removals team rather than a subcontractor. Read more about piano removals.
  • Antiques and art. Antiques and fine art removals are handled as their own service line.

We do not carry hazardous materials: gas bottles, flammable liquids, batteries, jerry cans or anything holding fuel.

How your Inner West move works

  1. Get a quote. Use our online moving home calculator, which works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or call 1300 883 117. The NSW Government’s advice on choosing a removalist is to always ask for a written quote, and to give the removalist all the details about your move so the quote is accurate.
  2. Check access. Tell us about stairs, lifts, parking and the distance from the truck to your door at both addresses. Anything that adds cost is raised before moving day rather than on it.
  3. Pack and label. If you have booked our packing team, every box is labelled by room. Our moving checklist keeps the weeks before the move on track.
  4. Load. The crew arrives with a truck suited to the move, then wraps, loads and secures your furniture.
  5. Deliver. At your new home the removalists place each labelled box in its matching room and put furniture where you want it.
  6. Unpack, if booked. The team wipes down cupboard shelves, sets up bathrooms with toiletries and towels, then flattens the boxes and arranges their collection.

What affects the cost of removalists in the Inner West

Local moves are charged at an hourly rate that covers the removalists, a fully equipped truck suited to the move, dollies, trolleys, blankets, straps and ropes, plastic mattress wrapping, and insurance. If the move runs longer than the estimate, it continues at the agreed hourly rate, not a penalty rate. Prefer certainty? A fixed price can be quoted once we know your inventory, access and move details, over the phone or after a quick on site or virtual survey.

When you compare removalists Inner West quotes, the things that move the number are mostly about access:

  • Large staircases, including internal terrace stairs and walk-up flats.
  • Heavy or specialty items such as pianos and pool tables.
  • A long carry or no parking near the door.
  • Travel time from our Greenacre depot, which a call out covers on Sydney moves.

Timing matters too. Weekdays typically offer better availability and can be more cost effective than weekends and peak dates, and mid day start windows of 11:00 to 14:00 or 12:00 to 15:00 are offered at a reduced rate for Sydney moves. For a fuller breakdown, read our guide to what removalists cost in Sydney.

Removalists Inner West FAQs

How much do removalists in the Inner West cost?

Local moves are charged at an hourly rate that covers the removalists, a truck suited to the move, equipment, mattress wrapping and insurance. We can also give a fixed price once we know your inventory, access and move details. Stairs, heavy items such as pianos, a long carry or no parking can add cost, and we raise these before moving day.

What size truck do I need for a two bedroom flat in the Inner West?

Our 4 to 5 tonne truck holds 20 to 25 cubic metres and is the size suited to an inner city apartment or a small move. A fuller two bedroom home may need the 6 to 7 or 8 to 9 tonne truck. We confirm the size from your inventory when we quote.

Do I need a council permit to park the removal truck?

Inner West Council work zones are designed for approved works on the adjacent property and can take up to eight weeks to approve, so they rarely suit a one day house move. What matters more is a clear space near your door, so hold a spot with your own car and tell us about clearways, bus stops and No Stopping signs.

Can you move me out of a strata building?

Yes. Check your building’s by-laws, book the lift or loading dock with the strata or building manager, and tell us the floor level and the distance from the truck to the entry. Our crew brings blankets, dollies and trolleys to protect your furniture on the way out.

Do you move pianos and antiques in the Inner West?

Yes. Upright pianos are moved by our standard removals team rather than a subcontractor, and antiques and fine art are handled as their own service line. Mention them when you quote, because heavy and specialty items can add cost.

Can you store my things between leases?

Yes. Our modular storage box is delivered to your address, packed by our crew, kept at a secure facility with constant surveillance and restricted access, then delivered back and unpacked when your new place is ready. It starts at 10 cubic metres.
