What that means on moving day: more rooms to empty, more beds and wardrobes, and garages, studies and outdoor furniture on top. If your home sits on a larger block, as many do out towards Dural and Arcadia, check how far the truck can get from the front door. Local rules to plan around in the Hills

Truck parking and load limited roads

The City of Ryde’s heavy vehicle rules spell out the parking limit: a vehicle with a GVM over 4.5 tonnes, or longer than 7.5 metres, can only park in a built-up area for one hour. Clear your own cars off the street the night before so the truck can stand right outside while it loads.

The same page lists roads with a three tonne load limit, including Herring Road and Agincourt Road in Marsfield, Fontenoy Road in Macquarie Park, Clarence Street and Warwick Street in North Ryde, and Lovell Road in Denistone and Eastwood. A heavier vehicle can still use a limit notice road when its destination is on that road and there is no alternative route. If you live on one, give us your exact address at the quote so the approach is planned before moving day.

Apartment moves and strata rules

Moving in or out of a unit in Epping, Macquarie Park, Hornsby or Waitara? Under model by-law 13 of the Strata Schemes Management Regulation 2016, an owner or occupier must not move furniture or large objects through common property without giving the strata committee sufficient notice to have its nominee present. Your building may also ask you to book the lift. Send us your booked window and we will plan the crew around it.

Clear the garage with a council clean up

Local moves are charged at an hourly rate, so every item you do not move saves time. The Hills Shire runs a kerbside clean up collection twice per calendar year for bulky household items, and the collection date should fall within 14 to 28 days of your request. Book it at least a month before your move. If you live in a unit or townhouse, your strata manager or executive committee requests it for the whole complex.

Movers in Hornsby and along the northern line

Hornsby Shire has more variety than The Hills. In the 2021 Census, 69.5% of its homes were separate houses and 21.9% were flats or apartments, so a Hornsby move can be a four bedroom house in Normanhurst one day and a unit in Waitara the next. On bush blocks out at Berowra and Arcadia, a few photos of the driveway at the quote stage help us send the right truck and crew. North of Berowra, we also run moves to the Central Coast.

• Packing and unpacking. Our packing and unpacking team can pack one room, the breakables only, or the whole house. On unpacking, shelves are wiped down, bathrooms are set up and the flattened boxes are collected.
• Boxes and materials. Port a robes, picture cartons, TV boxes and bubble wrap are all in our box shop.
• Storage. Our modular storage box is delivered to your address, packed by our crew, kept at our secure facility, then delivered back when you are ready. Handy when you sell in Castle Hill before your new build in Kellyville is finished.
• Insurance. Restricted or full cover, on a market value or replacement basis, is explained on our moving insurance page. It is optional.
• Office moves. Businesses in Macquarie Park and around Bella Vista can book office removals after hours, overnight or on a Sunday, with furniture dismantled and reassembled and files packed and archived.
• Pianos and antiques. Upright pianos are moved by our standard removals team (see piano removals), and antiques and fine art are their own service line.

Our driveway is long and steep. Is that a problem?

No, but it adds time, so tell us when you quote. On a fixed price job, access issues such as a long carry or no parking are raised before moving day rather than on it.
