Kerb space, permits and the one hour rule

North Sydney Council issues a permit to occupy a road or footpath. It is written for activities such as material deliveries, skip bins, footpath use and road occupation, its fee list separates metered and non-metered parking space occupation, and standard applications need a minimum of 5 business days’ notice. Council’s works zones are a different tool: they are on-street zones for construction vehicles, and council asks applicants to allow 30 business days for review, so they do not suit a one-off home move.

The NSW Road Rules also apply. Rule 200 says a heavy or long vehicle must not stop in a built-up area beyond one hour, unless the driver spends that whole time dropping off or picking up goods.
